Four Scary TV Shows That You Should Watch

The horror genre is something that is mainly associated with movies. Whether a brand new story or a remake of an old favourite, horror films continue to be extremely popular with people around the world.

After all, what’s scarier than a 2 hour movie that has you hiding behind your hands for the entire duration?

Well…what about a 20 hour “movie?”  Horror TV shows have recently began to grow in popularity. Whilst not a new thing (The X-Files was so scary back in the day), TV writers are pushing the boundaries more than ever.

Here are just some of the scariest TV shows that we’ve had the pleasure of watching. Be warned – you might not get much sleep afterwards.

American Horror Story (2011 – present)

 

You probably guessed that this one would be on our list right? American Horror Story has a reputation for not just being amazing, but for being ridiculously creepy. Often described as being one of the “strangest” TV shows of the past decade, there is no denying that one single episode of the show packs enough punch to keep you hiding behind your pillow throughout. Each season has a different theme and it somehow manages to be scarier than the previous.

AMHS is praised for the way that it reuses its cast without taking away from the story. Jessica Lange and co continually pop up as someone different throughout the series and still manage to creep.us.out.

Hannibal (2013-2015)

We’re still extremely upset with the cancellation of Hannibal – why do all the good shows meet an untimely end? This horror TV show follows FBI profiler Will Graham as he is recruited to investigate a series of murders in Minnesota. He is supervised by Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a secret cannibalistic serial killer who is fascinated by Graham.

If you’re wondering if the show is as scary as it should be? We can assure you that it definitely is. We would describe it as being more of a psychological thriller than full on horror – but these are often a lot more creepy to watch!

Penny Dreadful (2014-2016)

This British American fantasy horror TV show is set in the Victorian era. It brings together famous literary characters such as Dorian Gray and Frankenstein – delving into their history by exploring their origin stories.

Whether you love vampires or prefer werewolves, this show has it all and then some more! It’s a show that constantly has you on the edge of your seat – it builds tension in a fantastic and gripping way.

The Walking Dead (2010 – Present)

The Walking Dead is considered as being the most successful zombie TV shows of all time and we wouldn’t disagree. The show follows a group of survivors as they try and stay alive in a world that has been taken over by zombies.

The scare factor is one of the things that makes the show so consistently great. Each episode has you either hiding behind your hands or on the edge of your seat! Blood, guts, death and gore – no one is safe!
